Arabic Calligraphy Design

Customized Arabic Calligraphy

Tattoo Designs

If you are interested in having a tattoo designed in Arabic calligraphy, I would be more than happy to work with you on a design. I’ll do everything from single words to long lines of poetry. Email me at arabic.calligrapher(at)gmail.com, and we can work together on what works best. The above gallery is just a small preview of what I’ve been working on lately.

I can also design tattoos in Persian, Urdu, Kurdish, Sindhi, Uighur or any other language written in Arabic script (although I do not speak those languages, yet).

I also translate between Arabic and English, so if you have a word or phrase in English that you’d like translated into Arabic, I can do that for you as well. Translation is free with the purchase of a design.

How to Order

There are currently two ways to order a design. The easiest is to use the shopping cart option below with PayPal. When you have completed the order, email me at arabic.calligrapher(at)gmail(dot)com and tell me what phrase or word you want designed, and I’ll take it from there. If it’s confusing and you don’t know how much to pay, don’t freak out! Just email me and I’ll figure it out.

The other method of ordering is that I send you an invoice you pay online. This is predominantly for more complex or more expensive phrases. I accept payment to arabic.calligrapher(at)gmail(dot)com.

In either case, please email me to tell me what words you want designed. I normally will send you the design by email within a week. If it will take longer, I will email you.

How it works is I will send you a high-res jpg when I’m done, and you print that out at the exact size you want it to be on your body, and then take that to the tattoo artist who will make a transfer. I do not mail the original file, though if you are interested in the original piece, I am happy to discuss this.

You can also have a look at the Styles page, and tell me which one (or ones) you like, and I can work in that style for your design.

All rates are per number of words in English. If you have already have a phrase in Arabic, it is per word in Arabic.

There are two options for design styles: Linear and Figural. Linear is text on a straight line, figural is ‘bunched up,’ in the shape of an object or animal, or otherwise non-linear.

The difference is shown below:

Terms and Conditions:

-I retain the commercial rights to all calligraphy. In other words, these are for personal use, period. No commercial use.
-If, on the rare occasion you are unsatisfied with the piece, I am happy to redesign a piece you are unhappy with five times for free. For that reason, it helps to be as specific as possible about the type of changes you would like to see.
-The above prices are for one style. Additional styles are $15.00 per word.
-All calligraphy must be paid for in full before I start working. I’m sorry it has to be like this, you can thank those who decided not to pay.

What I will not do:

-Design tattoos of offensive phrases.
-Check the spelling of words you had translated. I am happy to translate, but only with the purchase of a design.
-Tell you if the Arabic tattoo you got is correct.
-Redesign a piece because you want to see it in a different style. I am happy to redesign in different styles, but the cost is $15/word.

Keep in mind, I do this work all by hand with a reed pen, these designs are not translated by a machine and then spit out of a computer. This is an analog cottage industry in a digital age, and ultimately I’m just one artist trying to do my thing.

Thanks,
Josh
